October Newsletter

At Art Bug our intention is to nurture the child’s natural inclination to look at things closely. We encourage students to focus upon the details of things; the veins of a leaf, the pattern on a tea cup. We look and then we draw or paint what we see. In so doing, we hope that children will retain their sense of awe and wonder about the world around them and learn how to appreciate what they can achieve with a bit of guidance.

We have also started sessions for adults at Caper Bookshop on Magdalene Road which have been well received. The format is simple, we pick a book which focuses on a particular genre of art or an artist, we discuss the book and then have a go at making a guided drawing of an image discussed in the text. We do all of this over a glass of wine and cake so look out for our next event on Wednesday 6th November when we will be looking at Man with a Blue Scarf by Martin Gayford. Tickets can be purchased on the door or on the Caper website www.caper.fun.

We have got some exciting events coming up for the October half term. On 28th and 29th October, we will be running two sessions at Caper bookshop both of which will take inspiration from Maurice Sendak’s classic picture book, In the Night Kitchen. Please see details about this event on the Caper website www.caper.fun.

On 30th Oct, 31st Oct and 1st November we will be running sessions at St. Nicholas Church Hall, Old Marston OX3 0PR. The sessions will run from 2pm-4pm and will all be based around the theme of Studio Ghibli films. Please get in touch with Catriona at catrionadooly74@gmail.com for booking and details.
